Review

"... Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic are completely successful with this Romantic gem. As expected, Bernstein takes a showier approach to the music than some other conductors do, but the conducting never deviates from affectionate respect into something more hard-driven. I suspect that Bernstein was fascinated by the symphony's unusual form – a case could be made for not calling it a symphony at all. The opening movement ("Wedding March") is a charming set of variations; in it, you can hear everything from the bride's demure hesitation to the preening pride of the wedding party. The second ("Bridal Song") and third ("Serenade") movements function as brief, contrasting intermezzos, and the fourth movement ("In the Garden") is an extended scene whose passionate tones suggest that the happy couple could hardly wait to consummate their marriage. The finale ("Dance") incorporates a learned fugue into the peasants' festivities, and a reference to "In the Garden" suggests that the newlyweds are still consummating their marriage, even as the symphony comes to an end. Bernstein conducts this music as if it represented an afternoon of joy – which in fact it is. ..."

Karl Goldmark (May 18, 1830 – January 2, 1915) was a Hungarian-born Viennese composer. Came from a large Jewish family, he briefly studied at the musical academy of Sopron, Vienna Technische Hochschule and then to the Vienna Conservatory, but was largely self-taught as a composer. Among Goldmark's best known works are the Rustic Wedding Symphony Op. 26, the opera Die Königin von Saba Op. 27, and the Violin Concerto No. 1 Op. 28. Goldmark's chamber music, influenced by Schumann's and Mendelssohn's, although critically well received in his lifetime, is now rarely heard.

Paul Hindemith (16 November 1895 – 28 December 1963) was a German composer, violist, violinist, teacher and conductor. Hindemith is among the most significant German composers of his time. His early works are in a late romantic idiom, and he later produced expressionist works, before developing his neoclassical style in the 1920s. Notable compositions include his song cycle Das Marienleben (1923) and opera Mathis der Maler (1938). Hindemith's most popular work, both on record and in the concert hall, is probably the Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber, written in 1943.

Leonard Bernstein (August 25, 1918 – October 14, 1990) was an American composer, conductor, author, music lecturer, and pianist. He was among the first conductors born and educated in the US to receive worldwide acclaim. His fame derived from his long tenure as the music director of the New York Philharmonic, from his conducting of concerts with most of the world's leading orchestras, and from his composition. As a composer he wrote in many styles encompassing symphonic and orchestral music, ballet, film and theatre music, choral works, opera, chamber music and pieces for the piano. He was also the first conductor to give numerous television lectures on classical music.

    Bernstein Story

    Film von Georg Wübbolt
    vom Sender meines "Vertrauens"

  4. google translated:
    Film by Georg Wübbolt
    the sender of my "confidence"

Leonard Bernstein was a gifted conductor and composer. Not only his groundbreaking musical "West Side Story" made him a music icon. For 40 years the music world was at his feet.
On the occasion of his 25th death anniversary on October 14, 2015 documented the portrait the most important biographical and artistic stations Leonard Bernstein. Family members and companions to speak. Archive recordings and concert recordings complement the documentation.

"Without music, I can not live" ...
... Said Leonard Bernstein. But He cited not only his successful conducting engagements and acclaimed compositions but also his mission as a music promoter.

In the 1940s, Bernstein found his compositional vocation. He played in jazz combos and learned it the music of African-Americans and other populations know. In his music, he reflects the America of the 20th century. Then, just as the Russian and his Jewish roots sounds, based his entire work.

Leonard Bernstein enjoys to direct it
Yet the composer was surpassed by the conductor Bernstein far. At just 25 years, he catapulted himself as an orchestral conductor at the top. The struggle between conducting and composing should determine his artistic life to its end. This disruption took place also in the private sphere: With his family on the one hand and its domestic partners on the other hand he was always looking for fulfillment. Leonard Bernstein remained an eternal seeker, eternal doubter. He delighted with his aura million people.
