Franz Schubert (31 January 1797 – 19 November 1828) was an Austrian composer who was extremely prolific during his short lifetime. His output consists of over six hundred secular vocal works (mainly Lieder), seven complete symphonies, sacred music, operas, incidental music and a large body of chamber and piano music. Today, Schubert is ranked among the greatest composers of the late Classical era and early Romantic era and is one of the most frequently performed composers of the early nineteenth century. His music is characterized by pleasing tunes while still has "a great wealth of technical finesse".

***

Fritz Wunderlich (September 26, 1930 – September 17, 1966) was a German lyric tenor. He was noted early as a brilliant young tenor, especially in Mozartian roles, but he later expanded his reach to the full range of the lyric tenor repertoire, and occasionally sang and recorded minor Wagner roles. Wunderlich's crystal-clear voice, exquisite diction, and intelligent but passionate interpretation also led him to impressive renditions of the lieder cycles of Schubert and Schumann. His promising career was cut short by an accident while he was on a hunting vacation. Wunderlich died just days before his 36th birthday.

  3. The blog is great. I love it. But I've downloaded this Wunderlich Müllerin twice now, and both times only the first three lieder have opened properly. It's breaking my heart. Can it be fixed?

    1. Can you be more specific about your problem? I downloaded the file myself and can't find any issue.

  4. Thanks, Ronald Do, for your kindness. I've been using an app that doesn't seem to have any other name than RAR Opener. The icon is what looks like a white pages with the upper left hand corner folded down (or I guess it could be mistaken for a grand piano) against a robin's egg blue background. I have downloaded and opened the Peter Schreier Winterreise and the Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau Goethe-Lieder with this device in recent days with this device as well as numerous other of your brilliant postings previously. But I've now tried opening the Wunderlich Müllerin a third time, and once again the RAR Opener tells me that there's something wrong with the file. Since you succeeded in downloading the file, problem must be at my end. I should probably find a different opener. But thanks once again for the marvelous and increasingly indispensable blog. We love you. Big hugs from here in Brazil.

  5. 7-Zip did indeed do it. Thanks for your patience with me. And thanks once again for the consistently great posts. Love the hair-down image of Rubinstein on the cover of the Chopin 51 Mazurkas you just put up today. I don't know how you guys do it, but it's an education. Hugs from Brazil
