Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (8 March 1714 – 14 December 1788) was a German Classical period musician and composer, the fifth child of Johann Sebastian Bach. C. P. E. Bach was an influential composer working at a time of transition between his father's Baroque style and the Classical style that followed it. Among his most popular and frequently recorded works are his symphonies, as well as many keyboard concertos and sonatas. Bach was also an influential pedagogue, writing the ever influential “Essay on the true art of playing keyboard instruments ” which would be studied by Haydn and Beethoven, among others.

Anner Bylsma (17 February 1934 – 25 July 2019) was a Dutch cellist who played on both modern and period instruments in a historically informed style. He studied with Carel van Leeuwen Boomkamp at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and won the first prize in the 1959 Pablo Casals Competition in Mexico. Later, from 1962 to 1968, he was the principal cellist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Bylsma was one of the pioneers of the "Dutch Baroque School" and rose to fame as a partner of Frans Brüggen and Gustav Leonhardt, who toured extensively together and made many recordings.

***

Gustav Leonhardt (30 May 1928 – 16 January 2012) was a Dutch keyboard player, conductor, musicologist, teacher and editor. He was born in 's-Graveland, North Holland and studied organ and harpsichord with Eduard Müller at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel. Leonhardt was a leading figure in the movement to perform music on period instruments. He performed and conducted a variety of solo, chamber, orchestral, operatic, and choral music from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods. Among the awards given to him were the Medal of Honour for the Arts and Sciences from the Netherlands.
