Eduard Franck (5 October 1817 – 1 December 1893) was a German composer, pianist and music pedagogue. He studied with Felix Mendelssohn as a private student in Düsseldorf and Leipzig. As a talented pianist, he embarked upon a dual career as a concert artist and teacher for more than four decades during the course of which he held many positions. Although highly regarded as both a teacher and performer, Franck, as a composer, never achieved the public recognition of his better known contemporaries such as Mendelssohn, Schumann or Liszt. His chamber music is generally considered amongst his finest compositions.

Richard Franck (3 January 1858 – 22 January 1938) was a German pianist, composer and teacher, the son of composer Eduard Franck. Richard studied at the Leipzig Conservatory with Carl Reinecke and Salomon Jadassohn. During the course of a long career, Franck held teaching positions at conservatories in Germany and Switzerland. Although did not reach the front rank amongst his contemporaries, he was well respected as a concert artist and as a composer. His compositions are mainly for solo piano; however, he also wrote orchestral and vocal compositions, as well as a considerable amount of chamber music.

***

Carl Reinecke (23 June 1824 – 10 March 1910) was a German composer, conductor, and pianist. He studied with his father, Rudolf Reinecke, as well as with Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann and Franz Liszt. Reinecke is remembered as one of the most influential and versatile musicians of his time. He served as a teacher for 35 years, until his retirement in 1902. After retirement from the conservatory, Reinecke devoted his time to composition, resulting in almost three hundred published works. Overall he wrote four piano concertos (and many cadenzas for others' works), as well as concertos for violin, cello, harp and flute.

Thomas Blees (born 1938 in Wuppertal) is a German classical cellist.
