Anton Bruckner (4 September 1824 – 11 October 1896) was an Austrian composer. His symphonies are considered emblematic of the final stage of Austro-German Romanticism because of their rich harmonic language, strongly polyphonic character, and considerable length. Bruckner composed eleven symphonies, scored for a fairly standard orchestra; his orchestration was modeled after the sound of his primary instrument, the pipe organ. Despite being criticized for their large size and use of repetition, Bruckner's symphonies was greatly admired by subsequent composers, including his friend Gustav Mahler.

Günter Wand (January 7, 1912, Elberfeld, Germany – February 14, 2002, Ulmiz, Switzerland) was a German orchestra conductor and composer. Wand started his career in Cologne, where he was to stay for several decades. In 1982, Wand became chief conductor of the NDR Symphony Orchestra and recorded the complete symphonies of Beethoven and Brahms with this ensemble. The highlights of Wand's late career were his annual guest appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Wand received twice the internationally significant Diapason d'Or for his Schubert and Bruckner recordings with the BPO.

  2. Thanks for this.Gunther was a giant of a conductor. One thing though his flatulence was legendary -- so much so that at any rehearsal the orchestra members had to insist that there was adequate ventilation in the hall.Strange but true!
