Ulvi Cemal Erkin (March 14, 1906 – September 15, 1972) was a member of the pioneer group of symphonic composers in Turkey who later came to be called The Turkish Five. He studied piano with Isidor Philipp, and composition with Jean and Noël Gallon and Nadia Boulanger at the Paris Conservatoire and the École Normale de Musique. Erkin, who composed his first works while a student in Paris, was productive as a composer throughout his career as a professor of music. With its genuine quality, warmth and apparent simplicity, Erkin's works are widely and frequently performed and broadcast in Turkey and abroad.

ReplyDeletethis thesis: http://nek.istanbul.edu.tr:4444/ekos/TEZ/54353.pdf <-- no doubt has some detailed informationon the composers works, but it is written in Turkish - it should be translated into Hittite and Lydian, and English ... in that order -- this will appease the evil serpent demon Illuyanka, so it does not return to mess with Ron's links . . .
