Joan Manén (14 March 1883 – 26 June 1971) was a Spanish violinist and composer, born in Barcelona. As a child, his progress in music was so rapid that his father exhibited him as a piano prodigy. Then, having studied the violin under Clemente Ibarguren, he debuted as a violinist, and met with such success that in Germany he was compared to his famous countryman Sarasate. Almost entirely self-taught as a composer, Manén had begun to write at 13 and attracted much attention in Spain and Germany. His works include 3 operas, 3 violin concertos and many works for violin, piano and orchestra.

Robert Gerhard (25 September 1896 – 5 January 1970) was a Spanish Catalan composer and musical scholar and writer. He studied piano with Enrique Granados and composition with Felip Pedrell, and was the only Spanish pupil of Arnold Schoenberg. After the Spanish Civil War, he was forced to flee to France and eventually settled in Cambridge, England. Gerhard's most significant works include the ballets Soirées de Barcelone and Don Quixote, the Violin Concerto and the opera The Duenna, as well as four symphonies, the Concerto for Orchestra, and pieces for a wide variety of chamber ensembles.

Xavier Montsalvatge (11 March 1912 – 7 May 2002) was a Spanish composer and music critic. He was one of the most influential music figures in Catalan music during the latter half of the 20th century. Born in Girona, he studied violin and composition at the Barcelona Conservatory, where he became a lecturer in 1970, and then a professor of composition in 1978. As a composer, Montsalvatge explored virtually all musical forms in his composition, while his style evolved over several different phases. His work ranges in scale from operas to chamber music, as well as orchestral works and film music.
