Makar Ekmalian (2 February 1856, Vagharshapat - 6 March 1905, Tiflis) was an Armenian composer. He studied at the Echmiadzin seminary and later in St Petersburg with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Arrangements of peasant folk songs occupy a central place in Ekmalian's creative work, alongside his symphonic overtures, choruses, romances and piano pieces. His most noted composition was the Patarag, the setting of the Armenian Apostolic Church's Divine Liturgy, which he completed in 1892 in several arrangements. Ekmalian taught at the Nersisian Armenian seminary and the Tbilisi Music College.

Mikael Ayrapetyan (born 1984 in Yerevan) is an Armenian pianist, composer, producer and teacher. It was during his studies at the Moscow State Conservatory that Ayrapetyan began to explore rarely performed works by Armenian composers. After completing his studies, he performed widely in many countries, receiving an enthusiastic response from critics and audiences alike. Ayrapetyan has done much to popularise Armenian classical music all over the world with his Secrets of Armenia musical project. He was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Armenia for his outstanding contribution.
