William Elden Bolcom (born May 26, 1938 in Seattle, Washington) is an American composer and pianist. He studied with Darius Milhaud at Mills College, with Leland Smith at Stanford University, and with Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatoire. Bolcom has received the Pulitzer Prize, the National Medal of Arts, a Grammy Award, the Detroit Music Award and was named 2007 Composer of the Year by Musical America. He taught composition at the University of Michigan from 1973 until 2008. As a pianist, Bolcom has performed and recorded frequently with Joan Morris, whom he married in 1975.

Stefan Wolpe (25 August 1902, Berlin – 4 April 1972, New York City) was a German-Jewish-American composer. His teachers include Franz Schreker, Ferruccio Busoni, and Anton Webern. He lived and worked in Berlin (1902–1933) until the Nazi seizure of power forced him to move to Vienna (1933–34) and Jerusalem (1934–38) before settling in New York City (1938–72). From 1952 to 1956 he was director of music at Black Mountain College, and lecturer at the summer schools in Darmstadt. His densely eclectic music absorbed ideas and idioms from diverse artistic milieus, including post-tonality, bebop, and Arab classical musics.

Marc-André Hamelin (born September 5, 1961 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian virtuoso pianist and composer. Hamelin is recognized worldwide for the originality and technical brilliance of his performances of the classic repertoire. He has made recordings of a wide variety of composers with the Hyperion label. He is well known for his attention to lesser-known composers especially of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century and for performing works by pianist-composers. Hamelin has also composed several works, including a set of piano études in all of the minor keys.
